Third Rock®; was founded by Janice and Robert Felps in October of
1995. The name was first thought of while attending a physics class at
the University of Texas during the spring semester of 1981. Robert joked
about living on a rock, the third rock from the sun. While Robert was
searching for a company name for his professional consulting service,
in late 1995, a country song came out with "third rock from the sun" in
the lyrics. Remembering the jokes about our planet, Robert chose Third
Rock for the company name to represent a company that would provide
services for the Internet and World Wide Web that made our third rock
a little smaller. Several months later the hit TV series "3rdrock from
the Sun" was announced. There is no relation, except people often think
highly technical geeks are speaking in alien tongues. We do our best
to communicate clearly with our clients.
Janice is the principal owner, President and business manager of
WW Third Rock, Inc. (Third Rock).
She has a BS in Nursing and is a registered nurse. As Robert moved
into more consulting, Janice began operating the business side of
his consulting work.
Soon other technical professionals wanted Third Rock to
handle their contracts. Janice now owns and operates Third Rock as a
technical recruiting firm.
Robert had been a network (TCP/IP-Internet) and distributed computing
developer, administrator, specialist and consultant for almost 10
years when he discovered the web in 1993. From there he and Janice
created one of
the first on-line travel agents in the world during February of 1994.
From the travel agent came the creation of the Internet Travel Mall.
From these endeavors and his contracting and consulting experience
came the professional consulting business now known as Felps Group.
Robert still manages some contracts for Third Rock and is a minority owner.
